Wales North Fisheries Conference

4th December 2015  Coed y Brenin

A fishing conference organised by the Clwyd, Conwy and Gwynedd Rivers Trust and backed by Natural Resources Wales has been deemed a success. Over 60 people with a passion for Fisheries came to the visitor centre at Coed y Brenin to listen to and discuss lectures on topics relating to fish and rivers.

Alan Winstone, the Chairman of the Clwyd, Conwy and Gwynedd Rivers Trust said: “Anglers from all across North Wales came over for the conference. We’ll get feedback from delegates about this year’s conference before deciding whether we hold another similar event next year.”

Dylan Williams of NRW, added: “The format worked well and the event was a hit. The idea with this format is to inform the fishermen and get them discussing the issues with each other.”

Presentations were given by Dr Peter Hutchinson of North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organisation (NASCO) on salmon survival at sea. Dr Nigel Milner spoke about the life cycle of the Celtic Sea Trout and Richard White of Afonydd Cymru described work improving river habitats. NRW officers, Sarah Aubrey and David Cross discussed how they monitor the toxic chemical Cypermethrin, used for controlling the pine weevil, and are leading the way in trying to curtail its use near river habitats by trialling alternative control methods.

Dr Nigel Milner, who many of you will know ran the Celtic Sea Trout Initiative, gave a very informative talk on the outcome of the research, click Presentation to see the presentation document
